Obviously as I love murder mysteries and we are going to Sweden we will be going to Ystad as we travel around the west and south of the country. However, in Norway we were able to visit a few sights relating to the lesser well-known Annika Stranded.
Annika Stranded is a quirky little Radio 4 drama, just little 15 minute programs based around the cases of Annika Stranded who is a detective in the Oslo Boat Police. Firstly we visited the Troll Wall (Trollveggan) which we saw from the excellent visitor centre and view point. Whilst on holiday with her little son she saw a walker fall from the rock face and is convinced he was pushed – distracting her son she takes him to visit a Stave Church (we didn’t manage the same church as Annika but we did manage a different one).
Secondly we went to Oslo and visited Frognor Park and in it the Vigeland Sculpture park, here Annika investigates 3 men found dead at the base of the famous monolith.
Finally just before we left the Marina, where we had been parked for the night, an Oslo Police boat went past us, possibly the very boat that Annika might usually pilot!
This is probably not a very well known series but Annika is played by the excellent Nicola Walker (last Tango in Halifax, River) and it is well worth a listen when it is inevitably repeated again Radio 4 or 4 Extra.
